How about going to ONSEN hot spring in rainy season?!

The rainy season, known as Tsuyu in Japan, will begin soon here in Osaka.
Sometimes the weather is nice even in this season, it does not rain all the time.

To enjoy traveling around Osaka in this season, how about going to ONSEN nearby?! Onsen is, as you know, hot spring, which is nice to relieve your tired body during your trip.

The best hot spring resort around Osaka is Arima Onsen in Kobe-city, Hyogo.
It is just an hour and 1,330yen oneway from Umeda (Osaka) station
to the middle of Arima onsen by Hankyu bus.

You don't need to stay a night,
as there are some one-day hot spring places
for about 600 - 1,000yen for taking a bath,
and about 3,000 - 7,000yen with lunch.
My recommendation is GOSHOBO
with retro and modern flavor.

Also you will enjoy the nature and the old small
town with nice restaurants, souvenir shops there.

In Osaka-city, there are also some Onsen spots.
One is SPA WORLD in the middle of city center, where you can enjoy many kinds of hot spring.
They offer 1,000yen campaign oftern... or almost always.

Another is NOBUTA NO YU, which is about 30min from the hostel by subway.
There are chartered bath rooms with a small sitting space for a family for about 4,000yen/hour.

New LCC between Osaka and Tokyo launched this summer!

But this time I feel the need to write another article about LCC
as the big news comes in.

JETSTAR has announced that the domestic routes in Japan
would be launched on 3rd July 2012, which includes the route
between Osaka and Tokyo!!!

from the top> Sapporo, Tokyo(Narita), Osaka, Fukuoka and Okinawa

The cheapest price from Osaka to Tokyo is 3,990yen by JETSTAR.
Peach Aviation has already served the courses between
Osaka and some cities in Japan.

Some might decide not to get JR PASS, or some might
have failed to do that in advance..

But, taking LCC is another option for traveling around Japan
more economically.

Now, dance clubs in Osaka have to stop music for dancing at 1am because of the crackdown. Clubs can carry on business as a bar after 1am, but have to stop dance music by then anyway.
It made us little bit sad.

Hi, my name is Junco, a new front staff of HOSTEL64 Osaka.
I have been under the training since this January.

I am from Ibaraki city, is north side of Osaka. You can get there in 30 minutes by subway/bus→JR line from hostel64.
It is quiet city and easy access to Expo'70 com-memorial park and the Expo'70 stadium, is the home ground of "GumbaOsaka", a local soccer team. Expo park has a very beautiful japanese yard and has flea market sometimes, also the stadium is where you can feel Osaka football fan's enthusiasms. I think both are worth to visit!

Kobe is fairly close from Osaka.
You'll get to the city centre in an hour from our hostel.

This winter has lots of snow in Japan! Good powder snow. Don't miss it!

Hakuba(Nagano) is one of the biggest ski areas in Japan,

where 1998 Olympic Nagano took placed in.

I sometimes go there and enjoy skiing and snowshoe hiking.

Very good place to recommend.

Nice Japanese nostalgic lodging also there.

It is just between Tokyo and Osaka. You can get there by Shinkansen, rent-a-car and bus.

If you come to Osaka, take a bus trip to there.

It has been four months since the exhibition "Kula" by Masataka Kurose ended last summer in HOSTL 64 Osaka.

Now, the next event is going to be held on Christmas Eve in our hostel, room 33. Other than Christmas parties, many Japanese people like to have BONENKAI, literally meanig .......... "forget-the-past-year party".
This upcoming event, which we name "ROOM 33", can be a sort of this.

For the traveling in Japan, Japan Rail pass is the one of the best deal pass.
If you come to Osaka, Kyoto or Nara is not the worth to use it ,because the cities is not so far away from Osaka.

It is easy to go to Kobe and Nara from Osaka as well as to Kyoto,
even though you are not JR pass holders.

Kobe is the best place for vintage, second-hand and thrift shops.
The town itself has an exotic atmosphere and just walking is fun.
Also close to Rocco mountain side. >> one of the aractions
Of course you should try Kobe beef there!

Todaiji temple(A UNESCO world heritage site), Kofukuji temple,

Nara park and Isuien garden. Many deers will welcome you!

Osaka field trip is the one of the best Osaka book I have ever read.
There are unique shops and restaurants information of Osaka
which does not just introduce the image of Osaka such as flashy neon signs, comedians etc.
And also it is the 300 yen only! Many of our guests buy this book and go to their field trip!

The usual media image of Osaka is of somewhat tacky place with flashy neon...

A field trip of rediscovery to Osaka Original. We found hints in the words of

I just came back to Osaka from Seoul, actually I was only in Hongdae area
in all of my trip in Seoul. This time's trip was a music trip of Korea.

2days trip to Hakata, Fukuoka ---lots of yummy there!

I made a trip to Fukuoka last weekend.

First of all, I was surprised that it takes only 2 and half hours
to get to Hakata from Shin-Osaka by Sanyo Shinkansen, the bullet train.

If you ever have a chance to go to Hakata,
must go to Tenjin and Nakasu area to experience Yatai, the food stalls.

Along streets and rivers, you'll find many mobile stalls side by side, all filled with customers.

Yummy, friendly and good price!

Please have Tonkotsu Ramen after drink.

Next day, I visited Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine, which is located
just half an hour away by train from Tenjin station. It is really beautiful.
Again it is about food, but please try its specialtity Umegae-mochi.

It was momentary but i enjoyed it alot and happy to have many yummy dishes!

The title I wrote is sounds like the movie about Japan in the future,
but hope to not.
Last week, I went to hiking Mt Rokko Kobe,
I saw an abandoned hotel on the hill. Even though it is ruined,
the building still have something. a sense of existence. I felt.

The hotel is called Maya Kankou Hotel from 1920's.
It couldn't exist as a hotel many years because of non accessible by car.
Japan had been had motorization era since then.
However, some photographers or artists focus on those buildings.
Ironically it might be more artistic than before.

One of the famous island called "Gunkanjima"in Nagasaki.
The tour operating a year round. looks like Alcatraz Island in the US.

coal mining island. 5000 people were living there.
It was a maximum population density area in the world.

Some of the ruined buildings still have an atmosphere of existence,
The history of the buildings makes them more having air of substance.
Most of the reason they were gone is the situation of economics has changed.
I like to think about the history about it and image the scene of the time the buildings
had been alive with standing in the front of there.

From Osaka I recommend "Imujima"Island which was the remains of a copper refinery.
